Poinsettia Plant

My hubby was out and about yesterday, and came home with a beautiful poinsettia for me from the florist's shop! He's thoughtful like that sometimes! I had to put it on the top of my microwave because I have two cats who like to chew on plants, and I don't think they will try to get up there since there are other things on top and no room for them....at least they had better not try it.....!!! Here are pictures of it and a beautiful angel that my mother made for me a long time ago.

Legend of the Poinsettia

The plants' association with Christmas began in 16th century Mexico, where legend tells of a young girl who was too poor to provide a gift for the celebration of Jesus' birthday. The tale goes that the child was inspired by an angel to gather weeds from the roadside and place them in front of the church altar. Crimson "blossoms" sprouted from the weeds and became beautiful poinsettias. From the 17th century, Franciscan friars in Mexico included the plants in their Christmas celebrations.
